What good progression feels like in a mobile RPG
The difference between a mobile RPG I finish and one I quit almost always comes down to progression. Not how much there is, but how it feels. Good leveling makes each session end on a little upward beat, a new skill or a stat bump that changes how you play next time.
Emberfall Saga is my current example of doing this right. Respecs are cheap, so trying a new build never feels like punishment, and every few battles you unlock something that actually shifts your strategy. Compare that to games where fifty levels change one damage number and nothing else.
My rule of thumb after years of this: if I can't describe how my character plays differently than three hours ago, the progression is fake. Real progression rewrites your habits, not just your numbers.
When you're trying a new RPG, ask yourself after the first evening whether you're excited about the next unlock or just grinding toward it. That gut answer usually tells you whether to keep playing.
